based in bristol, space hardware is a project headed up by hypercolour boss jamie russell that is rooted in an appreciation of p­-funk and the outermost hemispheres of soul and disco. so far the imprint has released material from glenn astro, blacksmif, deft and placeholder and, continuing to shapeshift with each new 12-, the next in the series comes courtesy of apollo and delsin affiliate bakradze. also operating under his gacha and winter flags aliases, bakradze is an artist who uses his own live instrumentation, an mpc and classic korg synths to build rich and woozy melodies that he anchors down with technical rhythm structures. his message from home delves deep into this framework and is packed with a serious degree of flair. astute sound design, balmy guitar tones and loose, natural drum patterns pepper an eglo-esque sound in another fine addition to the space hardware catalogue.

motor city. the home of hi-tek soul. or simply, the origin. just a few of the names with which to descibe a city in the heart of america that has the power to captivate ones imagination. in the early 20th century it revolutionized transport, ushered in an age of previously unknown mobility and became the automotive capital of the world. during the 60s it gave us motown, one of the most influential r&b and soul record labels to ever exist. and, before the turn of the millennium, it would bring forth another musical revolution: the one called techno music. to abstract division, the city of detroit and its artists are a major source of inspiration. as such, they decided their newest metropolis ep was to be an hommage, a means of giving back. this special package includes an original track that keeps close to the spirit of melodic, rhythmic, minimalism detroit is known for. it also features three very special remixes by close friends oscar mulero - under his trolley route alias (which he hasnt released music under since 2010) - function, who ups the darker ante and marcel fengler who infuses it with his trademark berlin funk.

the peer pressure ep from the under-rated mark forshaw finds scenery records once again highlighting the rich strain of local production talent in the liverpool area. involved in the merseyside scene since the 90s, forshaw has released on labels like mathematics, tabernacle and apartment and is also a member of phantom planet outlaws with john heckle and binny. if you ve checked forshaw s prior output you will be happy with peer pressure as soon as the grubby, jacked up house of the title track hits its groove, with his four other cuts heading down a similarly unpredictable path. kudos to scenery for seeking out swedish producer daniel andreasson to remix the title track too! this is another no nonsense ep from scenery that is lovably rugged and unpredictably creative

repress 2015 ** boulangerie finally the mighty pepe bradock adds another 4 tracker to his unparalleld run of marvelous releases on his atavisme imprint: every single one is a collectable timeless masterpiece and this one is no exception. a glorious synopsis of his unmistakable style fusing snippets of jazz, film soundtrack and eccentric humor and a huge atmospheric range from spooky to buyoant often changing in seconds but always keeping that instantly recognizable quirky swing. and as if all this werent already enough reason to rejoice, keep in mind: this is only the first part!

fumiya tanaka s double-tracker >beautiful town< was fully inspired by its cover artwork: a set of carefully selected old pictures with a layer of masterful signature paintings by romanian artist and fine-arts student bonjour bonsoir. a-sides >abacus avenue< is the ep’s most dense and eerie side. an addictive piece that utterly succeeds in sucking you right in like a vortex would. the locomotive bassline serves its purpose of movement in a strong loopy groove, while the pads and poltergeist y sounds reformat our heads with an inability for space-time tracking. the otherside of this town, >himegami marathon<, is another mysteriously intricate work. its a microcosm of grooves, sinister details and voices locked in a tight groove built on a single bass stab and a flowing, never-ending set of wet claps. a piano kicks in at key points, alongside percussive elements, reminding us that this town is alive.

after big success of the first classic series by k alexi shelby, technorama is back with another great package. we started the classic series featuring tracks that we love, bought, played out and which we have the feeling more people should know about them. for this second, it is a great honor for us to welcome such a living legend, a pioneer from the detroit house scene terrence parker and the chicago veteran ellery cowles. this project includes two secrets cuts and timeless moments of detroit house & chicago techno.

a second release of the year for the emergent common dreams label sees reedale rise producer simon keat join the fold with a pair of thoughtful, pensive deep house cuts. lead track -pressure box- is the track with a sense of unpredictable funk, giving us juicy chords, starry-eyed pads and an overall nice atmosphere with the drums moving ever forward. the b-side azikiwe fuses sporadic arpeggiations with some very thoughtful chord melodies. maybe it could be described as having a more psychedelic twist. another fine house record from the common dreams team.

it’s not often that a breakthrough producer manages to cause major hype after just one release but when that artist is from the uk, putting out a brilliant ep on moodymann’s mahogani music, you start to realize how it happened in dan shake’s case. now its time for dan to build on this incredible start and from the way things are looking it’s safe to say it’s all going in the right direction. another rising star from the uk is wolf music regular medlar who has been making serious waves the last 5 years. remixes for the likes of glenn astro and disclosure have all helped put him in the spotlight and his debut lp sleep from 2013 delivered in spades. so when the news that these two were joining forces for a collaborative project reached us here at d.o.g we wanted in on the action.

italian records strikes again with another retro-futuristic step through its kult 80s catalog. in the late 70s gaznevada has been one of the most relevant italian punk-wave band coming to light from italian underground scene. in 1982 with i.c. love affair gaznevada moved from post-punk to new-wave pop electronic, this tune is, without any doubt, considered as a proto-house disco, an anthem on the most important clubs all over the world. for this special 2015 release italian records included in the package reconstructions by i-robots and giangi cappai, the already well know munk edit and finally & officially the david depino edit

the new generation can t be stopped.. another fresh new label with some ace tracks.. rhythm nation with terriers deliver three heavy and intense techno tracks ranging from raw (without getting harsh) to deep intense string loaded detroit rooted techno. no peak time techno tools, but tracks we ll play over and over. the pair spent the summer of 2014 under the tutelage of levon vincent, working on their distinctive and elegant sound that belies their young years.

pangaea (aka kevin mcauley) is one-third of hessle audio alongside ben ufo and pearson sound - a label and dj collective which has been operating since 2007. the third release on his own hadal imprint is another 4-track ep of techno mutations, indebted to both the lineage of uk soundsystem culture and us/european dance music.

waehlscheibe is back: the swiss label keeps on doing what it does best and releases another truly deep and dubby house record. this time its japanese artist takuya morita known for his releases on morris / audio and adjunct who pleases with soft pads and chords, rich delays and ultra low basses. all four tracks on this record are strictly instrumental and oscillate nicely between deep house and techno. moreover, they cover a wide range of moods suitable for playing at various times of the night. the >placid sunset ep< comes with a special 2nd version of the title track which has been reconstructed and stripped down by s&ro and alessandro crimi from waehlscheibe. as always all tracks have been mastered by above smoke at the hole of dub studio.

dino lenny makes a welcome return to ellum with the superb living in a song release, featuring three brilliant remixes from shall ocin, gardens of god & rebolledo. another great package!

yoruba records is happy to release this dance floor ready ep by label head osunlade. stretching across a range of styles theres something for everyone in this release, an absolute must for every djs bag. the ep opens up with the title track, what pho. a relaxing jam driven by a powerful sounding grand piano and complimented by shakers, the added backing percussion and subtle bird chirps lend well to the creation of this tracks rainforest-esque mystique. next up is the deep, almost jazzy track – jus anuda groove. the rolling bass line and four to the floor beat will get you moving – and keep you there - as osunlade reminds us that this is just another groove. opening up the b-side is schavanna, a funky, guitar-driven track whose pulsating bass line and friendly but muffled vocals will keep people moving on the floor. finally, the ep closes with the waiting game, a hypnotic, tribal-learning track with a foot-stomping beat, colored with the seductive vocals of rainy payne, its hard to tell which is more captivating, the groove itself or the story line she unfolds.

having previously plied their wares on is it balearic and los grandes, spanish nu-balearic sorts two mamarrachos pop up on another suitably horizontal imprint, dependable leeds label joe s bakery. there style is sunkissed by druggy, with opener al andalus offering an exotic, chugging blend of foreboding, lowslung grooves and arabic synthesizer melodies. super disco dancer delves deep into the box marked experimental analogue electronic disco, with heady, spaced-out synthesizers sprawling all over a typically atmospheric, cosmic groove. let feel higher is, arguably, the most balearic of the three, with warm acoustic guitars and delayladen gospel vocal samples creating a suitably toasty, glassy-eyed mood

the third chapter of shadow story is another collaboration between its joint label owners, dronelock and ontal who show once again that their symbiotic relationship is a meeting of like-minds and distinctive production techniques.

following the massive double pack compilation ‘eight wigglin ways to die’, earwiggle return with the debut of a fresh artist, faetch. although a new name on the scene, faetch s advanced take on harder edged techno is far from the work of a rookie it would seem. four tearing club tracks here that contain all the ingredients needed to move the party into another dimension: firing rhythms, strange sampling, manic synth programming, unique sound design... we could keep going. faetch 1 is simply a corker and strong addition to the earwiggle catalogue.

spilt milk return with their second release from mr spilt milk himself tred benedict. tred drops a tasty original track full of groove and energy, alot like the man himself. on remix duties, label favourite marcashken turns a wonderful interpretation and the awesome mihai popoviciu takes things up a notch with a classy techno work out. the final track is another original but this time in collaboration with label partner st. bernard, with the pair dropping a rather murky minimal number with some choice words from one of their idols.

stephane lefrancois & jameson gilvarry team up for the latest 12inch from the secret music label and find inspiration from a canine icon of space travel. laika is named in honour of the first cosmonaut dog, depicted here on the cover art and lefrancois and gilvarry convey her journey through an uplifting, rolling techno cut that doesn t seem to stop building. complementing the original is a remix from dantiez saunderson who strips down the groove, while giving it a swung, offbeat feel. staying true to the original, this version also introduces another layer of melodic synths, extending the journey, making it deeper and moody. the booming, clean low end and bouncy high end keep the groove propelling forward.

nologo is back with 2 essential, tried and tested underground club tracks. orlando b serves up side a with dark world, an epic, slow burning, dark-house journey. dark world begins completely stripped back before the main hook, an eerie hypnotic vocal is introduced. funky percussive elements creep in which drive the piece forward and a deep minor pad heightens the tension setting the tone for the rest of the track. the energy builds gradually with the addition of a 303 bass line peaking just before the end, taking the listener on a dark hypnotic trip. on the flip, is none other than house & techno legend mr g who uses the dark world vocal but takes it somewhere new providing his own unique and distinctive flavour. mr gs rum remix is a dark and twisted peak-time banger, the high energy from the off set perfectly complementing the slower vibe of the original. plenty of sub and twisted synth action keeps the momentum high and the dark stab he uses punctuates the vocal nicely giving it a raw edge. dark world is an essential addition to the record bag for darker dancefloors. dj deep: i love this, your remix is super funky and dark at the same time!!! dope! tom (panorama bar): ufff nice and dark.....another mr g gem. to be served with the rum rush...

san francisco/paris-based label spring theory is back with its fourth release. called sweet bitter love, it s a four track ep of manic sample-driven house from keita sano, a japanese producer who s been on a roll lately with releases for like-minded imprints discos capablanca, mister saturday night, and strictly groove recordings. sweet bitter love kicks off with the tripped-out flair of -once i found a diamond.- it s an uplifiting bongo-led cut with dubby melodics that sound like the kind of thing sleeping bag records would have put out in the early 80s. jacques renault provides a leaner peak-time version — complete with hard-hitting snares and growling bass — via his -once i found a diamond (jacques renault trouble funk remix).- things take a turn for the delightfully weird on the ep s namesake -sweet bitter love.- starting like a straightforward house cut, it explodes into a psychedelic collage of spaghetti western guitars, tribal calls, displaced jazz fills, and other forms of cleverly sampled soundtrack exotica. the release wraps up with yet another curveball on -bouzouk.- here sano lays out a subwoofer-knocking ny garage house rhythm that takes a left turn with frenzied bouzouki playing charting arpeggios through a haze of echoing foreign voices. taken as a whole, sweet bitter love is that rare idiosyncratic bomb of an ep that will keep your dancers moving and your trainspotters guessing — in other words, it s spring theory through and through.
